Privacy Policy

1. Your files are never uploaded

The video or audio file you choose is not uploaded anywhere. It is read directly by your own browser and transcribed on your own device. Nothing is sent to this site's servers, and this site has no servers that could receive it.

Concretely, when you pick a file:

• Your browser reads the file from your disk and decodes its audio using the browser's own built-in decoder. That happens in your device's memory.
• A speech-recognition model is downloaded from a public model host the first time you transcribe, then cached by your browser. After that the page runs offline.
• The decoded audio is fed to that model locally. The resulting transcript is written into the text box on the page, in your browser.
• Nothing about the file — not the file, not its name, not its contents, not the transcript — is transmitted to us. We could not read it if we wanted to: there is no endpoint to send it to.

Nothing is stored between visits either. There is no history, no saved transcript and no account. Reload the page and everything is gone. If you want to keep a transcript, use the Copy or Download .txt button before you leave.

2. Third-party advertising

This site will display third-party advertising in the future. It does not carry ads today, but it is built to, and you should assume ads are coming.

When advertising is switched on, ad networks — for example Google AdSense or a comparable provider — will be able to set and read their own cookies and similar identifiers in your browser, and will receive your IP address, your browser's user-agent string and the page you are viewing. Those networks use that data to select and measure ads, including personalised ads, according to their own privacy policies and your settings with them.

What this means for you:

• Advertising cookies and identifiers will be set by the ad network, not by us, and are governed by that network's own privacy policy.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising through your Google Ads settings, or through aboutads.info, or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser.
• Ads will never be given access to your file. The file never leaves your device, so there is nothing for an ad script to read even if it tried.
• This page will be updated to name the specific ad provider before or at the moment advertising goes live.

3. Affiliate links

Some links on this site may be affiliate links. If you follow one and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links do not change what you pay, and they do not give us access to your files or your transcripts.

4. What this site itself collects

This is a static website. It has no login, no forms that submit to a server, and no database. The only data this site itself receives is the ordinary technical information any web request carries: the page you asked for, your IP address, your user-agent string, and the time of the request. Our hosting and DNS provider processes that information to serve the page and to protect the site from abuse.

We do not run analytics that profile you across other websites, and we do not sell personal information.

5. Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Changes to this policy

When something material changes — above all when advertising actually goes live, or if the way files are handled ever changes — this page will be updated and the date at the top of it will change with it.
